Régis Babin – Cocoa and coffee entomologist

Cocoa and coffee entomologist, Régis Babin is an entomologist at CIRAD with over 25 years of experience working on cocoa and coffee across West, Central, and East Africa. He is currently based at Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. His research focuses on the cocoa swollen shoot virus, particularly the biology and ecology of its mealybug vectors. He works closely with farmers and local institutions to develop strategies that limit the spread of the disease, including barrier crops and improved monitoring. He also supports training and collaboration with national partners for sustainable cocoa production.
