 2021 edition PFP Online Forum SAVE THE DATE Food security and resilience: the challenge of the Green Deal’s Farm to Fork strategy for raw material supply Monday 22 November 202114:30 to 16:00 (CET) Register  Although the availability of food is not a major concern in Europe today, ensuring a sustainable, safe, affordable and nutritious supply of food still requires continuous efforts from all the actors of supply chains. We need to redesign our food systems, which currently account for nearly one-third of global GHG emissions, consume large amounts of natural resources, result in biodiversity loss and do not allow fair economic returns and livelihoods for all chain operators, in particular for primary producers. Since the launch of the Farm to Fork and Biodiversity strategies, several reports have been published that look at their impact, including a report by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). What are the common trends and where does the research agree? What requires further research? PFP has invited experts to present their views on the challenges ahead for this vital link in the food chain. Speakers include Mr Jesus Barreiro Hurle, Senior Economist at JRC, about their report on modelling environmental and climate ambition in the agricultural sector. A perspective on forthcoming challenges for the farming community will be provided by Mr Max Schulman, farmer and chair of the Agri-Food Chain Roundtable. Mr Tassos Haniotis, Deputy Director-General at DG Agriculture will provide the views of the European Commission on this matter.
